- These Group-A posts are recruited by union public service commission.Examinations that are to be conducted for the Group-A are civil service examination, Engineering service examination and combined medical examination.
- Posts that come under Group-A: Indian railway service of engineers, Indian railway service of mechanical engineers, Indian railway service of electrical engineers, Indian railway service of signal engineers, Indian railway store service, Indian railway medical service, Indian railway traffic service, Indian railway account service, Indian railway personnel service, protection force(post of assistant security officer), Railway board secretariat service.
For Group-B posts there is no direct recruitment. These posts will be upgraded from the Group-C. They are recruited by RRB.
